This ultra-high specification is needed to achieve the optimum photomechanical effect - this helps increase the speed at which the laser shatters tattoo pigments particles, helping to reduce the number of treatments needed for tattoo clearance.
Both models provide the new FraxTip lens attachment for skin rejuvenation with results comparable to those usually only achieved with more ablative technologies. FraxTip lens highly concentrates energy generated by the laser leading to a photomechanical induced trauma on the epidermis, resulting in increased collagen and elastin production while preventing any significant thermal damage to surrounding tissue.

"For tattoo removal, traditional Q-switched nanosecond lasers create a primarily photoacoustic effect which shatters the tattoo pigment, with a degree of thermal damage to the surrounding tissue, this damage being minimal.
However, with the advent of picosecond lasers for tattoo removal, an increased photoacoustic component is seen and even less thermal damage to the surrounding tissues.

The PICO SERIES uses the most advanced laser technology for the treatment of pigmented lesions, aged skin and tattoos. The laser pulses generate a pure photoacoustic effect which targets the pigments, leaving the surrounding tissues unaffected. Compared to traditional Q-Switched lasers that break down the pigmented particles in granules, DISCOVERY PICO, by the use of powerful.
Picosecond pulses, fragments the particles in a really thin “dust”, which is easier to be eliminated by the body immune system.
By emitting both 532 nm and 1064 nm wavelengths, The PICO SERIES can treat different tattoo colours, superficial and deep pigmented lesions also by using Q-Switched and Photo-Thermal (free-running) pulse emission modes, as an exclusive feature of this laser, with possibilities to treat also the aged skin (skin rejuvenation) effectively.
When an ink particle or a cluster of particles inside the skin absorbs the laser radiation emitted at ultra-short picosecond pulses, it generates an extremely rapid rise of temperature with levels within the particle that may reach even 900° C (¹). This rapid heating induces an extremely fast expansion in the particle, which generates a mechanical (acoustic) wave that crosses over the particle itself. The generated wave exerts pressure that exceeds the fracture threshold of the particle, causing its fragmentation(²).
This process is called the photoacoustic effect.
Thereafter, the fragments can undergo phagocytosis by macrophages and be removed through the lymphatic vessels.The photoacoustic effect in The PICO SERIES is more efficient compared to Q-Switched laser, because the highest laser power generates high internal mechanical pressure, which is literally able to “pulverize” the particles. The extremely short pulses obtain the best results before the scattering energy goes towards the surrounding tissues, in order to produce more effective treatments and greater safety for the patients.
To make this happen, it is necessary that the pulse duration is shorter than the time of crossing over of the mechanical wave within the particle, which for the thinner inks and melanosomes is fast, and precise in picoseconds.
